    Namaste :)<

I am starting to learn Hindi (followed by Sanskrit in a year or two) with my Guru (she felt after studying with her for a few years it is time to start learning the languages...I am so thankful for Skype :p). Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else would be interested in forming a study group? Perhaps we could make a thread for it if enough are interested :)

I am using Tuttle's Elementary Hindi + Workbook for my studies which are available online from Amazon or directly from their website if anyone would like to work along with me. Right now my teacher has me working on one lesson per week. If anyone is interested perhaps we can all learn together :D

I hope this finds everyone well, peaceful, and happy!

I'm curious. Why Hindi, and not just Sanskrit? Are you planning to travel or to integrate with a temple where Hindi is the common language there?

    Namaste,
thats great, but just to tell you hindi has no relation with Hinduism thou it is part of india and even in india many don't know hindi.
You should start with sanskrit to attain more knowledge

Garry, that's why I asked too. With newcomers, sometimes the misunderstandings are aplenty, and its good to get some idea of what the person already knows before replying. Some things just seem so obvious to us, but they aren't to newcomers. Hopefully the OP will return and clarify.

I should have specified, I'm sorry. Hindi + Devanagari she has asked me to learn so I can travel to India (it's more for personal reasons than Spiritual) as she knows that is something I would very much like to do. I also personally figured there would be more auditory/verbal practice with that so it would reenforce the sounds, letters, reading etc :) Sanskrit I figured I could learn afterwards once I have mastered the script itself as it is the most common script used it seems. Sorry for any confusion :). I do understand Hindi has nothing to do with Hinduism, but I figured perhaps there would be some interested people here to practice with as I hoped maybe a few others had interests in travel to India perhaps. If not no worries :D

EDIT: Oh and yes most at the gurukula speak Hindi, and it is difficult for some of them to help me learn in English as they only half speak it. Since I will be spending a few months there over thee summer she asked me to learn it to facilitate easier learning (that way she doesn't have to translate constantly :) ) I can tell they would be much more comfortable speaking in Hindi. I figured this was a good way to meet them halfway perhaps :)
