A few days back, many sections of the media reported, that a Khap Panchayat in Uttar Pradesh has ordered the rape of two Dalit sisters. The sisters are to be 'punished' as retribution for their brother's 'crime' of eloping with a married woman of a higher caste. A petition was started by the Amnesty International against the Khap panchayat ruling. More than 100,000 people signed the petition by Amnesty after the allegations. It has even led to calls by British MPs for action.

" Meenakshi Kumari, 23, and her sister, who is 15 years old, are to be raped, paraded on the streets naked, with blackened faces, according to the order given by the kangaroo court. " - screamed the media.

However, according to a recent BBC report, the claims are False. NO SUCH ORDER WAS GIVEN by the panchayat. Even the villagers have confirmed the same, when the BBC reporter travelled to the village of Sankraud. " We are so ashamed that our village is in the news for something that did not even happen," said the villagers.

These are vicious attacks to defame and destabilize our nation by malicious forces. Shouldn't the media investigate before running false stories ? Why is our media a party to this false propaganda ?
