Namaste, I am Brahma's Fifth Head. I am active on a couple of other forums as ShivaFan, one is a Hindu forum (HDF), another is a conglomerate of different religions, but includes UFO, supernatural, New Age as well as very heavy political debate (RF). I first started to become involved in forums about three years ago, when most of my focus was Hinduism, but have also signed into two "conservative" internet forums (political) though this is a more of a recent venture, however in the 1970s and 80s I was a VHP member and also attended various rightwing Hindu meetings in California including the RSS. Some of these were political in nature and anti-Islamic-extremist rally types. Today I am more right-wing than conservative, but this forum is centric to Hinduism and not politics which gets me back to my roots, i.e. Hindu.

By way of introduction, I am a 59 year old male, I am an American of Anglo-Saxon-Norman heritage who lives in the San Francisco, California (USA) Bay Area, my wife is Bengali on her Mother's side and Gujarati on her Father's side from an upperclass industrialist Brahmin family, the father an owner of glass factories, the father was a staunch very conservative Hindu (he is no longer living in this world), and my wife's mother is well known in the community of Bengali Hindus with many connections to Calcutta (Kolkatta) and a great devotee of Devi.

We are Saivas with strong Shakta undertones, inclusive of West Bengal Kali, Durga devotions, but my forte is Varanasi based Saivism, there is a strong Ganesha tradition in my family as well. My wife is a great devotee of Ganesha.

I am not a Smarta, but my Ishta Devata is Hanuman. I am a Hindu since 8 years old when I was "adopted" by Lord Ganapati. I started introducing Hinduism to other kids my age even then, and we had great times together in childhood, we were also devotees of Surya.

My main "expertise" is the various pastimes and histories and trivia regarding the Devas and Devi. I am a devotee of many Gods, but personal to me includes Hanuman, Lord Ramachandra, Mahadeva Shiva, Annapurna the Queen of Kashi, Shitala Devi, Ganapati, Kali Maa, Ganga Maa, and Others as well.

During the 1960s and 70s I met most of the famous Gurus who came to America or were residents. Some I knew quite well. I travelled to India over a dozen times, sometimes for extended periods, as well as Nepal. But this was primarily the North and Varanasi (Kashi) and Saiva but also includes some trips to Vaishnav Vrindavan and Mathura, and of course East India (Calcutta) Shakta. I have never been to South India but will go when I retire which may be as soon as next year.

My main "haunts" are San Francisco, Calcutta (Kolkata), Varanasi, Vancouver and Surrey (BC, Canada), Berkeley CA, London. I have relatives in the US, Canada, India, the UK, Australia. I used to be ok in speaking Hindi and able to read Urdu but I seem to have forgotten, though I am great at bhajans. I also know a little bit of German.

I am a Republican. My hobbies include oil painting, birds and bird watching, travel (have been to many areas of the world ezcept Africa), I also like things that use glass such as telescopes, microscopes, binoculars, etc., I collect things as well, such as coins (I have a nice collection of coins from India from ancient to post-Independence, but others as well), I collect 1960s Rock handbills, I am also very interested in investments, stocks, bonds, etf's, gold, oil and such industry and commoditites, and so on, and have done quite well for myself.

I look forward to participate and read about Hinduism and Sanatana Dharma, fyi I am an anti-caste and anti-jati Hindu so for full disclosure I am not a friend of caste extremism.

Oh yeah, I once used this same moniker of Brahma's Fifth Head on one other Hindu forum, but that forum went defunct about one month later... but I think it was the "old version" of this same forum! ... so you are all back!

So if true, let me reintroduce myself! ... which I just did!
